Welcome to the Department of Public Law
The Department of Public Law is charged with preparing students for professional legal service, with a bias to the public sector. The department trains students and prepares them to plead effectively in the courts, to be competent, rigorous judges; to be responsible prosecutors, to provide counsel to institutions, and to negotiate and compromise on legal issues without sacrificing the public interest. We train graduates to be aware of the role of law in development, but at the same time, to be aware of the limitations of law as a tool of public control and to be aware of the gaps between the law in the books and what is done in fact.
