Welcome to the Department of Commercial Law
Commercial law is defined as the body of laws that develops and regulates business transactions. These include Laws of Contracts, the Sale of Goods, Companies, Partnerships, Insolvency, Banking and Insurance, Labour Law, Tax Law, Shipping Law and Competition Law amongst others.
The Commercial Law Department offers these and various other courses related to emerging areas of commercial law. In addition to this, the department will soon be launching masters programs in the field of commercial law. These developments are in line with the vision of the department to be a center of excellence in for specialized research, teaching and consultancy in commercial law.
The department of commercial law is currently headed by Mr. G. N. Kitiwa with support of other (teaching) members of staff: Mr. George O. Ochich, Mr. Vincent Mutai, Dr. Seth Wekesa and Mr. Daniel Odhiambo and Mr. Henry J.A. Lugulu. Each of these members has publications on their different research interests, which further indicate the department’s expertise in a variety of commercial law subjects; both traditional and emerging. There are qualified and experienced support staff in the department, who ensure that the department’s functions run smoothly.
The department also exposes students in moot courts related to commercial law subjects and has in the past won awards in various moot court competitions.
The Department of Commercial Law is an exciting and welcoming department to work in.
